Mathematical Strategy Games and Math Apps for Teachers & Students

Let's TEFL

math-strategy-games

Examples of mathematics can be seen everywhere in our daily lives and can be used to aid numerous tasks and solve key problems. As a result, teaching kids mathematics to an appropriate level in schools is crucial.

Fortunately, we now live in an age where we have access to more cutting-edge and forward-thinking teaching tools than ever before.

The use of mobile apps and games is now prevalent in all areas of teaching with companies putting a large focus on producing high-quality apps to work in conjunction with standard teaching practices.

Math teachers can take advantage of these apps and games to enhance what is already being taught in the classroom. Here is a list of the top mathematical apps and games for teachers to show their students.

Table of Contents

  • Free Casino Apps
  • DoodleMaths
  • Geometry Pad
  • Prodigy Game
  • Splash Math
  • Games, Activities & ESL Teaching Tips

Free Casino Apps

This one might be a surprise and covers a whole category of apps since there are many available that provide the same functions.

Online gambling is huge and, as a result, there are a plethora of casino applications where players can taker part in traditional casino games from mobile devices. Many of the best casinos for Canadian players allow their games to be played for fun without spending any money.

Casino games can be the perfect tool for providing fun, visual representations of various mathematical principles like chance, probability and odds calculations.

In particular, Roulette is a simple and highly-visual way to help kids learn probability but many card games can also be used to help older students learn.

DoodleMaths

DoodleMaths is designed to help teach children from ages 4 all the way up to 14 at both homes and in schools. The beauty of DoodleMaths is that it adapts to meet the ability of the child using it. The app provides tailored programmes based on the student’s strengths and weaknesses, which is vital for building their confidence and helping them progress just like a teacher would.

The work inside the app is short and children are expected to complete these small tasks in a “little and often” manner. There are also assessment tasks to ensure the tasks are kept at the correct level.

DoodleMaths is an excellent way of adding some extra math work to complement the school’s curriculum. Both the teachers and parents can be linked to the child’s account for monitoring, which can be accessed across mobile, tablet and desktop devices.

Geometry Pad

Geometry Pad is an excellent app and is already loved by teachers for the simplicity it gives to the understanding of geometric principles and concepts.

The app presents itself as a digital workbook, which provides a fun and interactive way for children to solve problems. These kinds of interactive apps are also great for increasing student engagement in the classroom.

Teachers can set home assignments using the app so their students can practice and experiment with several geometry-based functions outside of the classroom.

Teacher guidance is needed with the app since it is designed to be used as a tool to aid the teacher’s lessons instead of being an instructional app or programme itself. Geometry Pad is a great addition to the classroom and will certainly appeal to the kids more than traditional pen and pencil approaches.

Prodigy Game

The good news here is that this one is completely free to use and is already one of the most-loved math apps for teaching students from ages 6-14.

Prodigy is a fantasy game-based learning app where kids can practice key mathematical skills as they play. Of course, the game-based nature of the app makes it one of the best ways to keep children engaged and having fun as they learn.

An important feature of the game is its’ adaptive capabilities, which means the app can assign different tasks to children based on their personal strengths and weaknesses. However, the very best feature is probably the app’s detailed diagnostic tests and real-time reporting.

The reports provide a way for teachers and parents to keep up to date with exactly how the children are developing. These reports can then be used to highlight any trouble areas where the student may benefit from extra work, which can then be implemented into classroom lessons and other tasks.

Splash Math

Splash Math is a comprehensive app that covers an array of topics for children ages 5-10 years old. The topics inside the app include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, time, fraction, decimals, money, geometry, measurements as well as many others.

The app provides a fun, interactive environment where children can practice and learn different math topics at their own pace.

The app can adapt to the student’s current level and provides teachers with insightful performance reports inside a graphical dashboard area. The reports can then be used by teachers and parents to keep a close eye on a child’s trouble spots and strong areas for further tailoring of their learning.
