Top 5 Linguistics Assignment Tips for ESL Students

Linguistics assignments for ESL students are based on scientific research of language which may include dialectology, sociolinguistics, machine linguistics, psycholinguistics, structural linguistics, and linguistic comparisons, etc. While teaching linguistics to ESL students linguists have to teach human language so that students can identify the relationship between the sounds of the language and their meanings.

In this process, they analyze non-speech and speech sounds and discuss the expressive and audio characteristics of those sounds. So linguistics assignments are based on the essence of communication and language. In all languages, linguistics assignments follow their general properties as well as the interpretation of a particular language. So while assigning linguistics assignments for ESL students you will have to follow a few tips discussed hereunder.

But before we begin we would like to recommend a reliable assignment help service Copycfafter.

ATTACH NEW STUDENTS WITH A COMPANION:

While helping an ESL student to learn the English language you should initially attach him/her with a kind and patient role model who can speak the language spoken by your new student so that he can easily make him understand English by translating it in his native language. The companion or a classmate you choose for this purpose must be willing to follow your directions to help your new students.

USE SEVERAL SKETCHES AND GESTURES:

While teaching the English language to new ESL students you should use several sketches and gestures to maintain their interest in what you are teaching otherwise they will get bored very soon. While making them understand what you are telling them you can use your hands as well as other parts of your body to make some gestures so that they can easily follow you. Another way to make them understand what you are telling them is that you can draw some quick sketches on the board.

USE GOOGLE TO ILLUSTRATE WITH IMAGES:

You can also use visuals to make your new students understand what you are trying to say to them. For this purpose, you can use Google to search for some relevant images. For instance, if you want to teach them about the roots then you can use your iPad to search images of roots on Google so that you can show them to your students and discuss their importance and benefits with them. It can be very beneficial for the new ESL students as they can learn the English language more efficiently.

For instance, while talking about a shy flower girl you can use your iPad to search on Google to find images of girls holding flowers so that your ESL students may not misunderstand a flower girl as a female flower. In this way, Google images can help ESL students to complete their linguistics assignments.

But while searching images on Google you must use your iPad carefully as a wrong search can lead to irrelevant images that can mislead innocent students. So while searching on Google teachers should enter the right keyword and do not show iPad to the students unless the right images are shown by Google.

USE IDIOMS CAREFULLY:

Many teachers use various types of idioms while talking to their ESL students like take the cat out of your bag or hold your horses etc. Such idioms can confuse the students as they do not understand their meaning due to a lack of knowledge about the English language. So while using any idiom the teacher should ask his students to raise their hands if they could understand its meaning. Then they can explain to them the actual meaning of that idiom so that they can easily learn how to use that idiom in their day-to-day life.

AVOID CORRECTING THE ERRORS OF THE STUDENTS WHILE THEY SPEAK IN ENGLISH:

When an ESL student speaks in English then instead of correcting his errors the teacher should appreciate him for his attempt. The teacher should guide him and correct his mistakes later on after he has completed the speech. It will increase the confidence of the student along with making him understand his mistake more easily.

Thus, by following the tips discussed in this write-up teachers can help ESL students to complete their linguistics assignments. Though it can be very overwhelming for many teachers when they have to teach ESL students they can receive them happily if they can support them through the tips discussed in this write-up.
