Last Day of School Activity Ideas
Let’s get into the games for the last day of school. Pick a few that would be great for your students. Check out this video for some of the highlights!
#1: A Class Party
One end-of-school-year activity that I love to do is a class party. Bring in some snacks and drinks, play some games and music and have some fun with your students. Talk about some fun things you did together as a class too.
#2: Memory Book
If you’re wondering what to do on the last day of school, wonder no more! Have students make a memory book with a few of their favourite memories. They can write a sentence or two about each one and draw a picture to go along with it.
#3: Make Ice Cream on the Last Day of School
The last day of school is hot in most countries, so why not make ice cream? It’s easy to do! Just have a look online (here’s a good one) for some recipes and methods. You can use a bag, can, or just about anything, along with some cream, vanilla, and sugar. Then, get the students to help you shake and roll it!
#4: End of the Year Bingo
Make some Bingo cards with things that some of the people in the class could answer yes to, but not everyone. For example:
- has 1 brother
- lives with 5 people in their house
- has a pet dog
- loves riding a skateboard
- Etc.
Then, students have to go around the class, finding people who would answer yes to each question in order to make a line (or whatever you specify).
#5: Go Camping for the Last Day of School
To have some fun on the last day of class, why not bring the forest to your students? Bring in a tent and a small stove. Students can help you set up the tent and then have some smores over the stove. Play some campfire games and tell some stories. It’s the ultimate last day of school idea.
#6: The Hot Potato Game
If you want to have some fun in class, almost nothing works better than the hot potato game! For the last day, you can make up some questions about the students in your class or about yourself (the teacher). Whoever is holding the potato when the music stops has to answer one of them.
#7: A-Z
The A-Z game works for just about any topic and can also work well for the last day of school. Students can list something they’ve learned, starting with each letter of the alphabet. Even better, play in groups!
#8: Egg Drop Challenge
One of the best things to do on the last day of class is an egg drop challenge. Students can construct a container to store an egg in. Then, drop the containers from the top of the school or out a window (get help with crowd control). The winners are the students who make a container where the egg doesn’t break.
#9: The Memory Sundae
Make a worksheet with a sundae bowl. Then, make some “scoops” of ice cream out of paper. Students can color in the scoops, write down a memory on each one and make their paper sundae.
#10: Time-Filler Activities
If you want to have some fun in a casual way, then consider trying out some of these time-filler activities during the last day of school:
#11: Compliment Me!
Get a stack of paper plates. Then, each student can write their name in a colourful marker in the center. Students can move around the class with a marker and write a compliment or kind adjective to describe that person.
#12: Drink Tasting
Adults love wine-tasting events! Why not do this with kids and some sugary drinks? It’s the last day of school, so parents probably won’t be too annoyed with it! Students can rank the drinks in order of preference to find the winners.
#13: Summer Bucket List
Students can make a list of things they’d like to do during summer vacation.
#14: The Tallest Tower
A fun school activity for the last day is to put students into small groups. Then, give students a variety of materials such as construction paper, tape, straws, etc. Students have to compete to build the tallest tower that is able to stand freely in a certain amount of time.
#15: Classroom Awards
Give out some fun classroom awards such as:
- Most likely to be a comedian when they grow up.
- Best lunches
- The kindness award
- A great friend
- The most helpful
- Etc.
#16: Last Day of School Crown
Kids love wearing a crown! They can make their own “last day of school” crown, decorated as they wish.
#17: Go to the Beach on the Last Day of Class
If you live near the beach, then go on a trip! If this isn’t possible, you can still bring the beach to the classroom. Get everyone to wear their favourite beach gear and bring a beach toy. Have some fun playing with sand, throwing a frisbee around, eating watermelon, and other beach-type activities.
#18: The Escape Room
Make up some clues and turn your classroom into an escape room. Students have to solve the clues in order to escape into summer vacation.
#19: Clean the Classroom on the Last Day of School
Get students to help you get ready for next year. They won’t mind pitching in! Have students clean out and wipe out their desks. They can empty the trash, wipe counters, clean the whiteboard, and do other small tasks like that.
#20: Show and Tell
A nice last day of school idea is to do show and tell. Students can bring a special thing from home (or a picture if it’s a person, pet, or large thing) and do a fun presentation about it. More details here:
#21: Paper Airplane Contest
If you want to have some silly fun on the last day of school, have a paper airplane flying contest. Give students some time to construct a paper airplane with a variety of materials. Then, go to the gym and have a contest to see which airplane flies the furthest.
#22: Movie Day!
This is a classic last day of school activity! Get students to vote on which movie they want to watch, then bring in some popcorn. Students can bring in whatever snacks and drinks they’d like.
#23: Scavenger Hunt on the Last Day of School
A fun activity for older students is to have them go outside and do a scavenger hunt. They can take pictures of what they find, and the winner is the first team to come back with all of them.
#24: Fun Online Quizzes
If you want to fill some time in a fun way in your class, try out one of these challenging online quizzes for kids:
#25: Thank you Notes
I love to have my students make some thank you notes for other people at the school. Make a list of the various people, such as the secretaries, principal, librarian, music teacher, etc., and then students can make some thank-you notes for them.

#28: Memory Collages
Have students create collages using photos, drawings, and written memories of their favorite moments from the school year. Display the collages in the classroom or create a memory wall.
#29: Time Capsule
